About Camp Cadet

Cambria County Camp Cadet is a free, weeklong summer program open to youth ages 12–15 who reside within Cambria County. Modeled after the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, Camp Cadet provides a structured, educational, and empowering experience for young participants.

Throughout the week, all participants are referred to as “Cadets” and are expected to fully engage in each scheduled activity. The program emphasizes:

  • Discipline
  • Teamwork
  • Self-esteem
  • Awareness of challenges today’s youth may face

While the camp introduces cadets to aspects of law enforcement and criminal justice, it is not limited to those pursuing a career in police work—any youth with a willingness to participate and grow in a disciplined, team-oriented environment is welcome.

🔹 Camp Cadet is not a boot camp, nor is it a disciplinary program for addressing behavioral issues at home or in school.
🔹 Camp Cadet is a one-time opportunity for each cadet unless senior cadets are accepted in a given year.

Cost & Funding

Camp Cadet is completely free of charge for cadets and their families. Thanks to generous support from local businesses, community members, and fundraising efforts, meals, lodging, and all programming are provided at no cost.

The only costs families may incur are for personal items that cadets are required to bring with them. These are outlined on our Items to Bring checklist.

Eligibility Criteria

To attend Camp Cadet, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 12–15 years old during camp week (Must be 12 by the start of camp and not turn 16 before or during camp)
  • Be a resident or attend school in Cambria County
  • Be physically able and willing to participate in fitness activities
  • Be committed to learning and following military-style discipline

Applicants with any prior negative contact with law enforcement will not be accepted.
